From Sondalo in Valtellina, born 1980, Guido Giacomelli grew up wearing skis. He followed in the wake of champions such as Fabio Meraldi and Adriano Greco and since 1998, when he started competing in skialp races, he has won practically all there is to win. Some examples: a collection of medals at the European and World Championships, two successes (2005 and 2007) in the Trofeo Mezzalama and three (2006, 2007 and 2009) in Mountain Attack. Then four second places (2006, 2007, 2008 and 2011) for Pierra Menta and other achievements it would take too long to list. At his best in descent, fast in ascent and most comfortable with technical routes, Giacomelli is the prototype modern ski mountaineering champion: a boy whose father introduced him to ski skins and who has never stopped since. He became part of the national team in 2002 and has reached the world peak in his speciality.
