«Climbing has awarded me with a lifestyle I adore» says Giovanni Massari, a native of Carrù in the Piedmont region, who was nineteen in 1981 when he began to scale solo with an incredible intensity, opening a chapter in his life that was to last up to 1991: a total of 3650 days of which 2000 spent on rock and ice, and 1000 soloing on these terrains. He hasn’t just got memories of difficult moments, there’s that magic feeling of the ultimate handhold as he tops out all these routes. An uncompromising search of adventure urged him to make his way through unexplored physical and mental spaces, until the day when a change of course occurred, so-to-speak a farewell to certain events. As a matter of fact, Giovanni eventually realized that without wings one is sooner or later apt to take a fall, and if this happens one will no longer be able to climb...
