Two Olympic gold medals, one in 1996 at Atlanta (Pursuit) and one in 2000 at Sidney (points race), would be more than enough to present Antonella Bellutti, born at Bolzano on 7 November 1968 and one of Italy’s all time greats in sport. But Antonella’s career, which started in athletics in 1980 and went on to track cycling in 1992, is sprinkled with other successes, such as the silver and bronze medals in the world championships held at Bogotá (1995) and Manchester (1996) and a European gold in Berlin (1997). Not forgetting her victories in the World Cup, two world records (1995 and 1996), an Olympic record (1996) and sixteen Italian victories. Today, after years of competing at top level, Antonella is free to dedicate time to her real passion: ski touring. She practises this sport with Viviana Maffei, and rates it as «full immersion: fatigue, technique, training, difficult stretches, and thrilling descents. Total involvement of the body and mind».
