To the ends of the world by bicycle. This is Maurizio Doro’s speciality: to feel the thrill of challenges and to meet and get to know special people. Like that Indian guru who, with all his worldly goods in a sack on his shoulder, asked him for a drink and went peacefully on his way. Or like Dale: an American trapper who spoke to him of the “quality of time” and before taking his leave made him a gift of a bear’s tooth and a claw («These are for you: take care of them» he said). Maurizio’s passion is deep rooted: at seventeen he successfully crossed Liguria entirely on foot. Time brought other challenges: extreme contests from the desert to the icy Alaskan wastes and journeys to savour freedom from South America to Tibet. Among the many things he has done, worthy of note are his thousand kilometre crossing from Lhasa to Kathmandu by mountain bike and his solitary adventure along the famous Karakorum Highway, from Pakistan to China, via the Khunjerab Pass (4693 m).
