Alpine guide and national CNSAS (Italian Mountain and Cave Rescue Team) instructor from Varese. The story goes that once, in Verdon, Giovanni found himself swinging under a 7c overhang. His friend Beppe Dallona tried to help him by throwing a rope, but it was windy and the rope flew in all directions. Beppe attempted to weigh it down with a rucksack full of stones (the rucksack also contained his camera, a detail he had forgotten) but it didn’t work and the whole lot ended up on the canyon floor. So Giovanni, aka Rosco, had no choice: dejected, he climbed up his own rope, using the laces of his mythical Mariachers to make prusiks.
