In the near future I still want to focus on sport climbing as I am definitely sure that climbing one 9c is great but climbing two or three 9cs is even better. Therefore I want to focus on the sport climbing level and try to push my limits even further and see if I can possibly send a 9c even faster than Silence. Because in the end, Silence took me almost two years. For another 9c, I don’t think I will be super motivated... more >>>

MATTEO GIGLIO AND ARNAUD CLAVEL CLIMBED BONATTI-VAUCHER ON THE NORTH FACE OF GRANDES JORASSES

In the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the last great Bonatti route on Mont Blanc

«August 1964, in four epic days of climbing (after many unsuccessful attempts), Walter Bonatti and Michel Vaucher opened the direct route on the Whymper Spur, North face of Grandes Jorasses. A route extremely difficult, in fact stated ED ... but re-evaluated ED + by the first repeaters" - so begins the fascinating report by Matteo Giglio about the recent repeat of the route that ended the mountaineering career of Walter Bonatti due to the high risks experienced during the opening. His climbing mate was Michel Vaucher, one of the strongest French climbers in those days. Bonatti, came forth from Jorasses, decided to stop with the extreme mountaineering. He had to do the last exploit to close in beauty: the solo winter on the Matterhorn North face, searching a new route. more >>>

Runner Franco Plesnikar’s activity is intense and enduring. “After several years of ploughing through the cross-country trails, I ran my first marathon in 1998. Nives and Romano 12th eight thousand

Nives Meroi and Romano Benet reached the peak of Kangchenjunga on 17 May This summit had been sought after for quite a while – a goal imbued with significance that extends well beyond a mere mountaineering performance. A new trail for them to cover, together yet again, to tackle and overcome Romano’s illness. They were finally back and ready to climb their “15th eight thousand” and they did it with the severity and discretion which has always made them so outstanding. more >>>

"AKOPAN TEPUI 2014": A NEW EXPEDITION FOR ROLANDO LARCHER

Trentino’s native climber gets his hands on some Venezuelan rocks

Larcher, Giupponi and Oviglia brought their “Escalador Selvatico” (Wild Climb) to life in 7 days of climbing the walls of Akopan Tepui, an enormous massif that rises in the heart of the Amazonian Forest. They opened a new 630-metre route with a difficulty grade of 7c+ (7a+ obligatory). As Lacher told us, this line has a truly wonderful climb that nobody could have even hoped for at the beginning. In fact, of the route’s 18 pitches, only a couple are “jungle style” while all the others offer a climb that is simply thrilling. more >>>

SKI MOUNTAINEERING, A MEMORABLE SEASON FOR OUR COLOURSE

The past season will remain in the annals as an unforgettable season. Damiano Lenzi, the CS Esercito (Armed Forces Sports Centre) athlete, has won everything there is to win. He brought the World Cup he won in Tromsø (Norway) back to Italy – beating the great Spanish athlete Kilian Jornet Burgada and France’s William Bon Mardion. As if that weren’t enough, he also won all three races of the Grande Course:  Pierra Menta, Tour du Rutor and Patrouille des Glaciers respectively coupled with Matteo Eydallin and Michele Boscacci, also athletes of the CS Esercito Courmayeur. A perfect season planned and prepared right down to the tiniest detail that saw him in top physical condition for the entire season and sustained by great motivation and professionalism. Important triumphs were also in store for other athletes of the CS Esercito: Robert Antonioli graduated as European champion of Vertical Ski Racing while his teammate Matteo Eydallin came in second place in the Single Ski racing category. Even the junior team placed brilliantly at the World Cup with Federico Nicolini coming in second behind Spain’s Oriol Cardona. For the women: France’s Laetitia Roux steamrolled her competitors by winning the World Cup, the European Championship and the Grande Course. There are really no adjectives left to describe her. She is the undisputed Queen of Ski mountaineering who has collected an astounding series of victories – the result of much hard work, sacrifice and self-denial as well as a boundless passion for this discipline. If on the one hand we celebrate our great champions, Montura has already confirmed its partnership for the upcoming season with the Ski Mountaineering World Cup and, as Main Sponsor; it will celebrate the 30th edition the legendary Pierra Menta in France. more >>>
