Gaetano Mura was born in 1968 in Cala Gonone, a small village half way up Sardinia’s east coast, the wildest and most beautiful coast of the island. His life is the sea: as a small boy on fishing boats, as a young man at the helm of a vintage sailing ship which he restored with his own hands so he could work between the sea and the mountains plunging into its waters. He’s got one great obsession: oceans and adventure. His tough preparation is that of a self-taught man. The sails unfurled towards his dream, he joins his first competitions, crosses the first finishing lines. And then comes MiniTransat 2009, the regatta of regattas. Thirty-two days fighting against the force of the sea, never daring to sleep, his only companion being solitude way until the coasts of Brazil. Here the joy of re-embracing his family, while his thoughts already go drifting towards a new adventure: “Gironelmondo”, where the world will be Gaetano’s regatta field. The world he dreams of: a cleaner and less polluted one, prettier and no longer devoured by consumerism.
