There is a silence that speaks louder than any words. It is the silence of the mountains of the central Apennines, ten years after the earthquake.
Among the ruins of abandoned villages and the first outposts of life slowly returning, a collective story takes shape. It is not guided by distance, but by suspended time: the time between what has been lost and what might one day return. Faces, landscapes, and everyday gestures reveal the image of a wounded mountain that continues to endure.

The documentary moves through solitude and grief, but also through stubbornness and hope. Because reconstruction is not only about rebuilding walls - it is about the possibility of staying. A mountain continues to exist as long as someone chooses to cross it, inhabit it, and protect it.

From April 25 to May 3, 2026, in Piazza Cesare Battisti in Trento, in conjunction with the Trento Film Festival, the photo exhibition 142 Seconds – Il battito della terra.

The exhibition presents a selection of photographs from the central Apennine territories affected by the 2016 earthquake, images that also form part of the documentary 142 Seconds – The Earth’s Heartbeat.

The photographs trace the different phases following the seismic events: the work of emergency responders, the suspended time of deserted villages, and the visible signs of transformation and gradual repopulation of the mountain areas.

More than a visual record of a natural disaster, the exhibition offers a profound narrative of a sudden and relentless force that has left an indelible mark on the landscape. Ten years after the earthquake, these mountains continue to shape the daily lives of those who chose to remain, standing as a living testimony to resilience, determination, and a deep sense of belonging.
